Yarn dreads will last between three and eight weeks, depending on how well you maintain them. This means you won’t have to worry about your next hairstyle for at least a little while. Yarn dreadlocks come in a multitude of colors and can be as long or as short as you’d like.
What kind of yarn do you use for dreads?
When choosing yarn for your dreads extensions, opt for acrylic yarn, not wool, as it will have a drying effect on natural hair. Medium-to-long dreads of one length is a great choice, but you can certainly play with layered colorful dreads or short locs.
Can you shower with wool dreads?
Yes! You can still wash your hair with wool dreadlocks installed! In the first few days after install, these dreadlocks will “train” your hair, meaning that your hair will gradually get less oily / greasy looking and your hair will need to be washed less frequently.
How do you wash yarn dreads?
All you need is a bar of soap (ideally olive or laundry soap), lukewarm water and some citric acid or vinegar.
Take a bowl, and fill it with enough lukewarm water to allow the set of dreads to completely submerge in it.Rub them with soap, and squeeze them thoroughly.
