Whirlpool refrigerator water filters can be found either in the upper right-hand corner of the refrigerator’s interior or behind the base grille. Some filters are twist-in models, while others are push-in.
Do you have to shut off water to change fridge filter?
Water Filter Basics
The best part about most of the refrigerator water filters used today is that once you unscrew the filter, it shuts off the water supply automatically. This means you don’t need to worry about finding a shutoff valve to turn off the water supply to the fridge.
Where are refrigerator filters located?
The majority of refrigerator filters are located in one of two locations: in the grille at the base of the fridge or in the back upper-right corner of the interior. In either location, you’ll see a knob or a button that will release the filter for removal.
Can I use my Whirlpool refrigerator without the water filter?
With the filter removed, the water system will continue to operate, bypassing the filter, and the clogged filter will not cause slow water dispensing or low ice production. However, in order to have filtered water, you will need to install a new filter.
